There are various preparation methods for magnesium oxide coatings, and suitable preparation techniques can be selected based on specific application scenarios and requirements. The following are some common preparation methods:

How to prepare magnesium oxide coatings?

Liquid phase plasma discharge method:This method is commonly used for in-situ synthesis of magnesium oxide coatings on the surface of magnesium alloys.By plasma discharge,a uniformly distributed and dense microporous magnesium oxide coating can be formed on the surface of magnesium alloy.

Mechanical ball milling method:This is a solid-phase method that involves mechanical mixing and grinding of raw materials to achieve a certain fineness, followed by a reaction at a certain temperature to obtain the desired oxide powder. This method has the advantages of simple process, high yield, and low cost, but the disadvantage is that the particle size of nanoparticles is difficult to control, making it suitable for situations with low requirements for powder particle size.

Solid phase reaction method:Under certain high temperature conditions, solid materials undergo reaction or decomposition to produce nano magnesium oxide.According to different reaction temperatures,it can be divided into low-temperature solid-state reaction method, room temperature solid-state reaction method, and high-temperature solid-state reaction method.

Precipitation method:A precursor of magnesium oxide is generated through chemical reactions, and then heat treated to obtain spherical or other forms of magnesium oxide. For example,Zhang et al.obtained spherical magnesium oxide with a diameter of 15-17um by precipitation method and studied the effect of time on its reaction process.

Heat treatment method:Mix magnesium oxide powder with solvent and adhesive(in some cases, adhesive may not be used),mechanically form the desired shape of magnesium oxide, and then heat treat to obtain the final product.

Magnesium smelting method:Magnesium oxide exists in the form of periclase in nature and can be extracted through magnesium smelting.Magnesium oxide has high fire resistance and insulation properties, and can be transformed into crystals after high-temperature burning.

When selecting the preparation method,it is necessary to consider factors such as the purity, particle size, morphology, and application field of the required magnesium oxide coating. For example,in the electronics industry, higher purity and specific forms of magnesium oxide may be required; In industrial applications, there may be higher requirements for cost and output. Each method has its advantages and limitations,so it is necessary to choose the most suitable preparation technology based on specific technical requirements and economic considerations.
