When pipes or equipment undergo thermal expansion due to temperature changes, the bellows of the metal compensator will expand to absorb the thermal stress. Conversely, when contracted, the bellows will shrink or shorten to release the absorbed thermal stress. The whole process of expansion and stretching is similar to the expansion and stretching movement of a spring. The corresponding displacement load will be generated when the pipeline system is subjected to thermal expansion and cold contraction. The load is transferred to the bellows through the end pipe, bracket and other accessories. The elastic deformation of the bellows under load can compensate the displacement and reduce the stress concentration and deformation of the pipeline system.
