The design of a bolt is important. How can you turn the functional requirements into technical requirements, which requires a certain amount of technical accumulation. Another example, the actual application of the bolt in the relatively harsh corrosive environment for a long time without being corroded, you need to corrosion environment according to the corresponding standards to choose the appropriate surface treatment or bolt material to meet the application of environmental requirements. In addition, the performance level of the bolt, thread tolerance level, dimensional accuracy level, surface treatment methods are all factors to be considered in the design, and even the sequence of some processes also need to be defined in the design (such as rolling threads and tempering, before and after the reversal of the order of the fatigue strength of the thread is a certain impact).

It is also important to choose the right material. Most of the bolts are ordinary carbon steel or alloy steel, which is the common situation. And bolts may be used in highly corrosive environment or temperature changes in the environment, or extreme temperature environment, then ordinary carbon steel or alloy steel is not very suitable. For example, ordinary carbon steel material in extreme low temperature will become brittle, easy to produce brittle break without warning. If used in high temperature environments, ordinary carbon steel will creep, that is, in the case of no loosening of the threads, the preload of the bolt will be reduced, easy to produce loosening or fatigue failure.
