hydraulic hose and fittings - who stocks them at home?

I blew a hose on the old Flexicoil drill - so, off to town I run for a $90 hose.

This got me to thinking -

Anyone purchase a hose press and stock fittings? Anywhere to buy a kit of common fittings? Are they all metric or no? Worth the expense of carrying parts you may not need for years?

We have mostly JD equipment, a Quadtrac 535, sprayer, and various other equipment from the 70's and 80's.

How far are you from a Dakota Fluid Power? They have a deal where if you buy so much stock and then they give you the crimper and saw or similar to it. The fittings and hose you buy from them will be heavily discounted over what you can buy it made up anywhere else for. They handle Gates products.

Parker makes a nicer more mobile crimper that you can take to the field with you and runs on compressed air, but my understanding is that Parker crimpers are really only designed to work with their own fittings and hose.

Yes bought my own couple yrs ago, stock mostly pipe thread type fittings, a few oring types for our loaders, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, and 3/4 hose and fitting mostly for 3/8 and 1/2 but have several for the smaller and only special fitting for the bigger hose. Buy most my fittings online and the hose, it is less then half price of what they charge in town. Has saved us many times already on weekends etc so could keep rolling. Have only had to run to town so far for a special oring type I didn't have, just keep your most common, you cant stock everything. Alberta Cowman

Next to a welder our crimp is probably the best and most used item in the shop. I'm an hour away from the nearest hose shop. It's not a factor of only saving time and money it's the convienence of building a hose when you want and need. You'll replace hoses before they blow.

Ours is a used AeroquipP crimp. It was ~$. Used a air/hyd pump off bead breaker. I like the Aeroquip hose. Seems to take the weather and abrasion better than others. Set up a bolt bin for fittings. Nothing worse than knowing you have a fitting somewhere in that pail.

There are metric fittings. I find most of what I use is JIC, ORB, and pipe. Getting to be more O-ring face fittings. Shop around. I can buy aeroquip for the same $ as Chinese.

No matter how much you stock initially there will always be something you miss. Whenever I need an oddball fitting I get an extra couple. Can build anything from 1/4" 1 wire to 1-1/4" 4 wire. Only a couple 1-1/2" hoses on the place that I can't make unless I buy the $600 die. Maybe someday.

This wasn't a cheap venture. Probably have $20k of fittings and hose. Very well spent though. Don't tell the neighbours. Word gets around plenty fast. :) TurnbullFarms

Bought a used hose crimper off Kijiji (eBay Craig's List), some hose and a bunch of fittings a couple years ago. There are a couple local distributors locally that stock whatever we need.

Last year it came in handy on a bunch of occasions. 2 hoses on the planter, 1 on the excavator, all new hoses on a piece of equipment we rebuilt. Neighbor  bought some hoses for a dozer that blew a hose.

They are expensive to buy, but once you own one, you'll wonder why you didn't buy one sooner.

I bought a used crimper and saw off Ebay for a good price. I bought my hose and fittings from Discount Hydraulics. The supplies is where you tie up a lot of money trying to have what you need when you need it.
I just bought the basics and add to it when I see the need for more stuff. Shipping is too high to just buy a few at a time.
I haven't used mine a lot but am glad I got it.

I have one that I use in my shop press. I too buy from discount hydraulic hose fittings. I stock pipe fittings and jic. I also have o-ring to jic adapters then use jic hose fittings. I find I replace hoses proactively instead of waiting till they blow, I know we purchase much less oil now than we used too. PopC

For our shop it is a must have, we seem to make hose assemblies everyday
Get ready to spend $20,000 plus
You need 1/4 3/8 1/2 3/4 hose
Pipe, o-ring, jic, flat face fittings in all sizes
Now you can start getting Din, Metric, British, etc.
1, 1-1/4 inch hose, low pressure suction hose, air hose fittings
Whoops gotta have another cabinet with more trays
When the neighbors find you can make hose assemblies you will be in the business

Hello The Owl

Grain farmers could probably get by with driving to town every time a hose blows, but I can't. I feed once a day in the evening, so when a hose goes, everybody is usually closed for the day. I bought a crimper at a dealership auction about 30 years ago & buy a spool of 1/2" (the most popular on my equipment) & might only buy 100' at a time of the 1/4', 3/8", & 3/4" hose. I have some of the more common fittings, but certainly not them all. After a while you know which ones to keep in stock. I usually have about $1,500 worth of fittings in stock.

I have a Parker Parkrimp 1 that I bought off of Ebay. I have a big supply of half, 3/8 and 1/4
hose and fittings and also have a small stock of 3/4 and 1 inch. I get my supplys right from a
Parker store about an hour away if I don't have something simple usually the local Deere dealer
has it in stock. I also keep a stock of 5/8 hose and japanese fittings for the excavator.
It is so handy to have and I use it all the time it is one of the have to have tools in the shop. KRM

I bet you won't regret the cost...whatever you end up spending. Never fails, the rain cloud on the horizon will cause a hose to break at 5:01 pm on a Saturday evening.

We have our shop in a small town (no service station or dealer to get a hose made) and we share a parker set up with 2 other neighbors. We all take turns buying fittings and hose, bargain shop for supplies. None of us seem to care if we've bought our "fair share" of components as long as we can get hose made and keep the wheels turning after hours. starvation

a true farmer 'round here (grain) would not need a hyd hose maker cause ya trade before it goes bad. but, the rest of us would love to have one. just have not bought one yet. nothing worse then baling hay, haul'n manure, bale'n hay sat afternoon and, '' you got to be kidding me''.

Why I like use One-piece fitting?

Wouldn&#;t it be great if a leak-free connection would last forever? This is the common wish of hydraulic people, but the realistic answer can only be "no".

With competitive price and timely delivery, zkhthydraulics sincerely hope to be your supplier and partner.

The good news is that the design of joints has been significantly improved over time. The one-piece joints make it easier to assemble and reassemble most connectors and perform routine maintenance without increasing the risk of leakage paths.

The one-piece hose connector has a ferrule that is pre-pressed onto the hose connector. The advantage is that the collar will not slip off. This style also ensures that the correct ferrule matches the correct accessory. The one-piece hose coupling is ideal for basic applications and quick assembly.

It is perfect solution if you&#;re new to the hydraulics hose industry or want simplicity and a foolproof option, because One Piece Hose Fittings is easy to assemble, widely selection of shape and end formations, excellent hose compatibility.

Types of integrated connectors:

Type:43 series parker standard of One-Piece Crimp Couplings is best-selling crimp style hydraulic fittings

71 series parker standard of One-piece hydraulic fitting is for R12 Four spiral steel wire hydraulic hose

78 series parker standard hydraulic flange of Hydraulic One Piece Fitting is for 6 six wires hydraulic hose

Features&#;

Non-Skive, &#;Bite-the-wire&#;up to 2&#;

Ferrule and insert are pre- crimped

Ferrule and insert are pre- crimped

Ferrule and insert are pre- crimped

Benefits:

Saves assembly time, easy to assemble

Reduces steps in assembly and potential for errors

One piece reduces complexity and leakage path

One style of coupling works with several styles of hose

So how to replace the integrated connector correctly?

1. First, we must determine whether we want to replace the joint is split or integrated.

The reusable connector is easy to identify which part is damaged, and the installation is simple, because it can be correctly installed on the hose using only a wrench and a vise.

The integrated connector can be installed more quickly. Crimp joints are also more reliable. The sealing performance is better.

2. Identify connectors and port connections

The ports and connectors in the hydraulic system must be correctly identified before the correct hose or tube assembly can be assembled and installed.

3. Determine the sealing method

The type of hydraulic connector varies according to its size, configuration and thread type.

4. Fit angle

An example of fit angle is SAE 45° or JIC 37°, but there are other angles. Fittings with corner seats have straight or parallel threads for sealing. When connecting male to female threads together, the threads themselves do not actually form a seal. Instead, they function mechanically to put the two mating corner seats together, eventually forming a seal.

5. Tapered threads

These types of joints have two types of threads: male or female. The male connector has threads on the outside and the female connector has threads on the inside. When the external thread and the internal thread are paired, the tapered thread deforms, exerting pressure on the coupling and eventually forming a tight seal.

6. Finally, measure the thread

Use the caliper to measure the thread diameter at the maximum point (outer diameter of outer thread (OD); inner diameter of inner thread (ID).

More and more people are beginning to use one-piece joints. They say that using one-piece joints, although it seems that the cost has increased, but in the long run, they have saved downtime, saved maintenance costs, and increased products to obtain More profits.

There is a proverb in China: sharpening your knife won't waste your time for cutting your faggot. It seems that you are doing time-wasting things, in fact, you are fully prepared for future efficiency.

Don&#;t you want to make the machine run more and get more profit?
