Flange faces are the sealing part of piping system, any damages on these sealing faces could make leakage of the fluid and potential disaster during service. It is important to protect these sealing faces right from receiving area to construction completion.

Please do note that this is not the responsibility of only Preservation Team, every discipline in fabrication process handling flanges are responsible and accountable. It is a tremendous collective team work, of all the disciplines at all the work locations, to ensure the flange face from the Receiving stage to till Construction Completion stage.

Flange faces shall be cleaned and degreased prior to installation. Flange faces on Valves & Pumps, pipes turbine, engine parts & other vulnerable surface that require protection during blasting, painting, storage and transport.

QC Warehouse: Material shall inspect all 100% flange face condition when arrived in receiving warehouse. Warehouse shall protect the flange face soon after receiving inspection is completed. Warehouse shall ensure that flanges shall be issued to fabrication shop with rubber protection

Fabrication shop QC and shop personnel shall ensure flange face protection intact while fabrication in progress. Fabrication shop QC to address the flange face protection final inspection status, in the shop IRNs, prior to dispatch of spool. Blasting location supervisor has to check the 100% of flange face protection prior to start of blasting. Coating production team or QC to prepare IRN after final inspection of flange face protection, prior to dispatch of spools to lay down. DC personnel shall ensure no flange face damage during their survey. MC flange management Team and Material QC Team to provide KPI data containing the register number of flange faces checked, found in good condition, or found damage.

Assembly area: Flange faces and bevel shall be protected at all times. Adequate protection of flange joint while the spools are in installed condition and flange joints are in temporary stage. Construction Manager to assign Person in Charge responsible for erection to provide plastic cap protector for the flange ends (in addition to rubber protection) for all sizes after the completion of coating. Material QC, Shop QC, Erection QC and Coating QC shall verify the flange face condition during their routine surveillance inspection.

Valves: All parties shall ensure 100% of flange faces of the valves are free from scratches and damages. Preservation engineer shall start preserve the valve and flange with lubricant and / or anti corrosion inhibitor as recommended by manufacture. Preservation engineer shall continue with periodic preservation and inspection during storage period: Shop Superintendent/Supervisor shall ensure 100% of flange faces of the valves are free from scratches and damages. When valve is being installed (in progress installation) the flange protection shall be still be in place. The flange protection is removed when the gasket is ready to be inserted and flange joint is ready to make.

Our Customer is keen to see we are implementing this Preservation Procedure effectively because they need to get their Modules fabricated on time- without any Flange Management issue in this Yard as well from receiving end customer.
